The size of the terminal is one of the most striking characteristics of Smartellite. Smaller than a laptop and equipped with a phased-array flat panel antenna in either Ku or Ka-Band for communication with geostationary satellites. Two separate versions exist. The Dynamic Smartellite Terminal is intended for use with Communications-on-the-Pause (COTP) and Communications-on-the-Move (COTM) applications, whilst the Fixed Terminal is intended for use with completely external applications. The Smartellite terminal is available in a fixed configuration that is affixed to poles or structures. It is compatible with both PoE and solar energy. This terminal enables wireless connectivity for phones, tablets, and sensors via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), as well as wired connectivity via LoRa WAN (Long Range Wide Area Network). It is intended for use in remote locations, such as mining, pipelines, and other energy verticals, as well as agriculture and other remote sensor backhaul applications. The dynamic terminal is equipped with a phased-array antenna that enables automatic satellite acquisition and tracking, as well as rapid beam switching in response to changes in polarisation and frequency. The antenna and satellite modem are tightly integrated into a single unit that features Ethernet, Wi-Fi, serial, and Bluetooth interfaces and is designed for minimal power consumption.
