Management Today’s 35 under 35 Women in Business, as Senior New Product Development Manager working in Hive, Centrica Connected Home. I manage their biggest internal technology investment since the launch of the award-winning Hive Active HeatingTM Thermostat, with total budget responsibility of £2.7Mn supplier contracts valued at ~£11Mn. I oversaw the growth of my team from 6 to 30 in 6 months.
The team has incredible diversity of 10 nationalities, yet reflects the universal state of women in technology; only 16% females. I champion the cause of Women in STEM through voluntary activities; for 3 years as STEM ambassador and more recently through WISE.
Prior to working at Centrica I received a BSc (HONS) in Microbiology from the University of Manchester (2010) before working for Johnson & Johnson and 3M as a medical device and pharmaceutical product development scientist. I completed an MBA at Manchester Business School as a Young Potential Leader (2014), gaining further experience in analysing market opportunities and product introductions in highly regulated sectors.
In June 2016, I passed the Army Officer Selection Board to gain a place at the Royal Military College Sandhurst. Working towards becoming a Reserve Officer in the British Armed Forces combines my interests in physical and outdoor activities with leadership and problem solving. As a gender fair organisation championing the role of women as leaders, the British Armed Forces naturally attracts those from diverse backgrounds interested in engineering and technology. I hope to use what I learn here to pave the way for more women in male dominated industries.
