Bluetooth Workshop: The Expanding Role of Bluetooth in the IoT – Bridging the Gap Between Connected Places and Smart Places

With over 3 billion devices shipped every year, Bluetooth® technology is creating connections that power innovation, establish new markets and push the limits of wireless communication worldwide. After pioneering the wireless audio and connected device markets and ushering in the dawn of the global beacon revolution, Bluetooth is once again expanding the way in which things connect.

With the launch of its mesh topology, Bluetooth is unleashing the incredible potential of many-to-many communications and enabling homes, offices, factories and cities to move beyond being simply connected to being truly smart. Now tens, hundreds, and even thousands of devices, from small, battery operated sensors to mains powered lights and thermostats, can reliably and securely communicate with one another. And when built on Bluetooth, a mesh network is more than just a network of devices; it is a platform upon which to run new services and solutions, allowing buildings to become truly intelligent, manufacturers to become more efficient, and businesses to service their customers in new ways.

IoT Innovation: Machine Learning for Developers – A Quick Introduction to the Nexosis API

Do you want to do the cool machine learning things but haven’t opened your linear algebra book since 1994? Maybe you have an awesome idea but don’t have time to become a data scientist and just want to build your thing. Are you craving a solution that allows you to do the machine learning stuff without learning all the machine learning stuff?

Well, I just want to build my thing too and I don’t have time to learn all the machine learning stuff either. The cool thing is, now we don’t need to crack the cover on our old textbooks. Instead, you can use the Nexosis API and take advantage of our data scientists instead of becoming one yourself. Our API provides a simple to use interface that lets you do time-series forecasting and impact analysis.

In this session, you’ll learn how easy it is to use our API, the types of problems you can solve with it, and how to use it in your application over HTTP or from your favorite programming language. There will even be a quick demo. So come and check us out and get started on your idea now!

IoT Innovation: A Safe & Secure IoT Future Making Today’s Processors Cyber-immune

Cyber attacks are exploding in volume. Software security “solutions” have been unable to effectively protect people and systems and often exacerbate the vulnerabilities. Our processors are complicit and the only way to comprehensively address the burgeoning problem is by addressing our existing hardware designs.

In this talk, Jothy will explain how seven years of DARPA research and two years of commercial incubation at Draper Labs have produced a solution: the Dover Microsystems PIPE. Jothy will walk the audience through Dover’s approach to secure processing and explain how Dover can protect you from all network based cyber attacks.

Using Artificial Intelligence and the IoT to track Volcanic Activity, Flooding, and Wildfires

For over the past dozen years, AI has been used to detect, track, and observe natural hazards and scientific phenomena, enabling unprecedented monitoring and study of Volcanoes, Flooding Events, and Wildfires.  In this talk I discuss the synthesis of hardware, software, that has enabled integration of scores of assets with AI/Machine learning/data interpretation/automated scheduling  software, the internet, and international collaborations for both humanitarian (mitigation of natural hazards and monitoring of UNESCO sites) as well as scientific purposes.  I then close by discussing potential extra-terrestrial applications of this technology.
